Spence,Different subject, but when the Stern liwsuat was filed, it was stated that Sirius had to respond in 20 or 30 days, depending on where the liwsuat was delivered. Do you have any idea whether the are working toward the 20 day or 30 day clock?The 20 day clock should expire on Monday or Tuesday, I believe. Reply
When I first heard about this last night I almost went crazy. How do you give a guy a lftmiiee extension for having a record that declines every year? Is this all the Monferts are doing to win>But the more I think about it, I don’t really think it means much at all. Under the transactions listing in the Post this morning it said that Tracy had his contract extended through 2013. So if it’s a handshake agreement with DoD and DoD is gone I don’t think the handshake means squat. While I am not in favor of rewarding mediocrity, I don’t think this really does. It may sound like a life-time contract but I think it’s just a one year extension with options that will or won’t be picked up. One of my pet peeves is the about the manager who is managing for today. Win today and worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Sounds good in theory but if you blow out a pitchers arm by using him an extra inning or two, he may be lost for 2 or 3 starts down the road (or longer). Now Tracy won’t have to manage like that. I remember when Bret Saberhagen came to the Rockies and Baylor left him in to throw a huge amount of pitches. As fans we loved it, but in reality Saberhagen was a disappointment for the Rockies. Did that one game ruin his season? I don’t know.That’s one of my criticisms of Pete Rose. His defenders say but he only bet on the Reds to win. But did he bet on the Reds every game to win? If not would he have done something extraordinary on Wednesday to win and then not bet on Thursday because he used up his bullpen? This is getting off-track. I hope this indefinite extension really isn’t life-time and if the Rockies have another lousy season this will really be Tracy’s last job and last season. Now I hope he’ll have a great season and we will be talking about him as Manager of the Year. I’m not a Tracy fan although I don’t hate him. But he is not stupid. I’m sure he knows that the Rockies screw-up his indefinite extension won’t last forever.
